Shank Park was founded in 1933 by Frances and John Shank as a memorial to their late daughter, Ruth. The couple donated the land to Allegheny County with the stipulation that it be used “as a public pleasure ground for the benefit of its citizens forever.” Over the years, it has become an integral part of local life, hosting many events and activities throughout the year.
