The Mechanicsburg Museum Association: Preserving History for Future Generations

The Mechanicsburg Museum Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1893, Located in 2 W Strawberry Alley, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, United States. the MMA is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the state. The MMA operates two museums in Mechanicsburg: the Cumberland County Historical Society Museum and the W.C. Woodside Sportsman’s Museum. In addition to these museums, the MMA also owns and operates a number of historic properties in the borough, including the John Harris log house and the Zimmerman House.

The MMA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of community leaders and historians. The Board oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization and its properties. The MMA is funded through membership dues, donations, grants, and fundraisers. Events hosted by the MMA include an annual 5K run/walk, a golf outing, and a holiday gala. 

The Cumberland County Historical Society Museum is located at 21 N. Pitt St. in Mechanicsburg. The museum houses a collection of over 10,000 items that tell the story of Cumberland County’s history from its earliest days to the present. The museum’s exhibits include a replica of a one-room schoolhouse, a log cabin, and an exhibit on the Underground Railroad. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free for members of the MMA; non-members can purchase tickets at the door for $5 per person or $10 per family.

The W.C Woodside Sportsman’s Museum is located at 2 E. High St. in Mechanicsburg. The museum celebrates the hunting and fishing heritage of Cumberland County with exhibits on local wildlife, taxidermy, and outdoor recreation. The museum also has a comprehensive gun library with over 1,000 firearms on display. The W.C Woodside Sportsman’s Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free for members of the MMA; non-members can purchase tickets at the door for $5 per person or $10 per family.
