Hummelstown is a borough in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,360 at the time of the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is located in south-central Pennsylvania, just north of Hershey and west of Harrisburg. 

Hummelstown was first settled by Swiss and German immigrants in 1762 and was originally known as Middletown. In 1800, it was officially renamed Hummelstown in honor of John Hummel, who built the first tavern in town. Today, Hummelstown is a thriving community with a rich history and a bright future. The Borough of Hummelstown is 9.2 square miles and home to just over 7,800 residents. It’s a beautiful historic town with a lot to offer residents and visitors alike. Here are just a few of the things that make Hummelstown special. 

History buffs will enjoy exploring Hummelstown’s past at the Indian Echo Caverns, a National Historic Landmark that has been open to the public since 1938. The caverns are home to America’s oldest known prehistoric remaining human settlement, with artifacts dating back 16,000 years. Today, visitors can take guided tours of the caverns and learn about the rich history of this fascinating place.

Locals and visitors alike love spending time at Swatara State Park, a 4,050-acre park that features 30 miles of trails for hiking and biking, camping sites, picnic areas, and much more. 

Hummelstown is also home to several interesting shops and businesses worth checking out. One such business is Lehman’s Hardware Store, which has been selling Amish-made goods since 1955. Lehman’s is one of only two stores in the country that sell Amish-made goods (the other store is located in Ohio). Another must-visit shop in Hummelstown is Millbach Masonry & Stone Restoration, a family-owned business that specializes in restoring old stone buildings.
