Our firm traces its origin to 1928, when two young attorneys, Thomas D. Caldwell and Carl B. Stoner Sr., became associates for the practice of law. Shortly thereafter, Robert T. Fox joined them and the firm was known as Caldwell, Fox & Stoner. The nucleus expanded in 1969, when Paul Clouser, Richard Kearns, William Caldwell, Thomas Caldwell and Carl Stoner formed the firm of Caldwell, Clouser & Kearns.
In 1987, the name of the firm was shortened to Caldwell & Kearns. Also that year, the firm moved to its present location at 3631 North Front Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Caldwell & Kearns is devoted to developing strong personal relationships with our clients and offers a broad range of legal services to meet our clients' needs.

Today the firm is comprised of attorneys who offer focused capabilities in diverse areas of the law, including real estate and development, business and commercial law, and civil litigation, as well as divorce, custody and family law, estate planning and probate, DUI, insurance defense, school and municipal law and numerous other matters. The depth of our experience can be seen in Charles DeHart, James Clippinger and James Goldsmith, each of whom have more than thirty years of experience with Caldwell & Kearns!
Caldwell & Kearns stands out in Pennsylvania with more than thirty years of experience representing real estate brokers and agents. We helped develop many of the standard forms used by REALTORS® statewide, and we have helped shape important legislation benefiting the real estate industry. Our firm prepares the Pennsylvania Real Estate Reporter, an annual compilation of relevant legal cases, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS®. Led by James Goldsmith, we represent real estate professionals in brokerage startup, licensing and regulatory compliance, and provide professional license or civil lawsuit defense, when needed.
Several of our attorneys are accomplished trial lawyers, representing clients in a wide range of matters from commercial disputes, land use and boundary disputes, personal injury and real estate litigation to professional malpractice defense, domestic, custody, support and family law and DUI defense. Jeffrey McGuire is certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a Supreme Court accredited agency, for his experience and demonstrated results.
